C3 AI Reliability
by C3 AI
C3 AI Reliability is a predictive-maintenance application on the C3 AI Platform that learns from equipment sensor time series and raises early warnings of failure. Shell selected C3 AI as its strategic AI platform in 2018 and used it first on control valves; Shell's data-science lead said in 2019 that it had 'already proven we can handle the 160,000 valves at our Pernis facility' and planned to cover 500,000 valves globally with over 2 million models. The stated aim was to turn hundreds of noisy alerts into a few predictive early warnings that direct maintenance actions, so reliability engineers decide on the work. By 2022 Shell had scaled the predictive maintenance to 10,000 pieces of equipment. In June 2026 C3 AI and Shell (contracting entity Shell Information Technology International B.V.) announced a multi-year expansion covering more than 13,000 pieces of equipment, adding agent-based root-cause analysis and remediation. The programme runs on C3 AI Reliability and the C3 Agentic AI Platform deployed on Microsoft Azure.
