Care to Translate
Care to Translate is a medical translation app that care staff, from reception and security to nurses and physicians, use to talk with patients who do not speak their language. It combines a library of medically verified phrases (52 human-verified languages) with Live Translate, which the vendor says uses machine translation and speech technology to translate free speech or text in real time in more than 130 languages, then translates the result back into the user's language so the user can check the meaning. Interpreters can also be booked through the app. The vendor says live output is not pre-validated, recommends the verified phrases for sensitive or complex information and presents the app as a complement to human interpreters; its transparency note says Live Translate should not be the only means of communication in critical or emergency situations. Input is sent to servers hosted in the EU and deleted after processing; the trust centre lists Microsoft Azure in the Netherlands as its cloud provider.
