AI Application
Low Confidence

Cirrus Assessment is a Dutch online platform for writing, delivering and marking high-stakes exams. Universities, awarding bodies and professional exam providers use it for item banking, online and paper-based exam delivery, marking workflows and result analysis. The vendor says the Cirrus Assist add-on uses the OpenAI API, with the customer's own API key, to draft multiple-choice, either/or and essay questions from guided prompts or uploaded PDF and Word files, including a suggested difficulty, feedback and an essay marking scheme, and that it also offers an open chat. A separate Examplary AI Authoring add-on, from partner Examplary, generates a full draft assessment from the customer's source material, with generation running in the EU. Authors confirm the AI output before it enters the item bank, generated items go through the normal review and approval process, and AI proctoring is only offered through a third-party Proctorio integration.

Publishes a channel for reporting security incidents or vulnerabilities: https://help.cirrusassessment.com/docs/report-vulnerability (read 19 October 2026).
Cirrus states that the accuracy of Cirrus Assist responses may vary with the complexity and specificity of prompts and that 'Organise from Raw Text' may produce less precise output than guided question creation (https://help.cirrusassessment.com/docs/ai-authoring). For Examplary AI authoring it says a generated question can be correct and still be wrong for the exam, so authors must check level and terminology before approving (https://help.cirrusassessment.com/docs/examplary-ai-authoring).
