ChatUMCG is the secure internal generative-AI chat environment of the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) for its staff, who sign in with their UMCG account. UMCG says it built ChatUMCG to be independent of existing models. The agency that built its front end says it draws on internal knowledge sources such as the intranet and internal wiki, answers HR questions directly, and lets users add their role, location or department so answers fit their context. UMCG's AI lead says staff can work safely with their own documents in it and that more and more UMCG policy documents are being linked to it. UMCG built the backend, AI architecture and infrastructure; theFactor.e built the front end. No source describes how staff are expected to check answers. ChatUMCG is hosted in UMCG's own Microsoft Azure environment and fully managed by UMCG; neither the region nor the underlying language model is named.
