SkinVision is a smartphone app for adults who want to check a mole or skin spot for signs of skin cancer, used by consumers, including through health insurers that offer it to their members. The vendor's instructions for use describe software that gives an immediate indication of risk for the most common types of skin cancer from a photo taken with the app, together with any symptoms the user reports, and then recommends either self-monitoring with a reminder in three months or a visit to a doctor, preferably within four weeks for a high-risk result. Photos assessed as risky also go through a quality check by the company's own dermatologists, who contact the user if needed. The vendor says the app does not diagnose skin cancer, is not a substitute for a healthcare professional, is not for people under 18 and is not advised for darker skin types or for spots on nails, mucosa or scars. Its privacy policy says data are stored on cloud servers in the EU, with the database on AWS.
