Dexter Power Forecasting
Dexter Energy, an Amsterdam company, sells machine-learning forecasts and trading signals for short-term power markets, delivered through an API: wind and solar power forecasts, near-time and nowcasting updates, icing alerts and imbalance price forecasts. Greenchoice uses Dexter's Power Forecasting for its wind and solar assets to reduce balancing risk and inform trading decisions. Pure Energie's short-term trading desk started with Power Forecasting and added products for day-ahead, intraday and balancing markets; its portfolio manager reports up to 10% lower balancing costs (customer story, April 2024). Scholt Energy uses Dexter's real-time imbalance price forecasts to curtail solar and wind assets during strongly negative balancing prices, and Dexter warns it about TenneT data issues so it can halt real-time steering (May 2024). Traders and portfolio managers consume the signals; the stories do not say whether any trading is fully automated. Dexter processes about 1 TB of weather data a day.
