Claude 3 Haiku is the fastest and most cost-efficient model in the Claude 3 family, released by Anthropic in March 2024. It is optimized for low-latency, high-volume tasks like real-time chat, lightweight agentic workflows, and simple reasoning. Despite its smaller size, it delivers surprisingly strong performance for its class. Claude 3 Haiku was trained on the same proprietary mix of data as Claude 3 Opus and Sonnet (public internet data up to August 2023, private datasets, and internally generated data). It underwent RLHF and Constitutional AI fine-tuning to align with helpfulness, honesty, and harmlessness. The model is multimodal (text and vision) and multilingual. Safety evaluations show strong alignment, with low rates of harmful outputs and high resistance to jailbreaks. It was deployed under AI Safety Level 2 (ASL-2) protections.
