- Record Notes
- Created 1 August 2026 from a user-supplied help-centre URL plus vendor product page, imprint and launch coverage. Transparency and correction notes follow.
1. SOURCE PROVENANCE AND STALENESS. The onboarding source was https://help.finom.co/en/articles/12607885-who-can-use-finom-accounting, an eligibility and scope FAQ written by 'Elena' and dated 31 October 2025. It is not a product page and not an AI transparency document. Its single AI-relevant sentence describes the tool as AI-powered and automating bookkeeping, expense categorisation, invoice and receipt processing and tax planning; everything else on that page concerns German legal forms and VAT eligibility. Because the page predates this record by nine months, its scope matrix was cross-checked against the live product page and is partly stale: the help article lists GmbH and UG as only PARTIALLY supported, whereas the live product page states GmbH and UG are in beta. The help article also says Germany is the first market with more to follow in 2026; as of today the product is still Germany-only. Do not treat that article as current scope evidence.
2. CORRECTIONS TO AiCatalogController_research OUTPUT. Four values from the research endpoint were rejected rather than carried into this record. (a) It returned the vendor as 'Finom AG'. No such entity exists in the group; the imprint shows PNL Fintech B.V. and Finom Payments B.V., both Dutch. AG is a German or Swiss form and is simply wrong. (b) It described the product as integrating banking, invoicing, expense management and accounting in a single solution. That was true before May 2026 but is now inaccurate as a definition, because the standalone release deliberately decouples accounting from the Finom business account. (c) It listed multi-currency support as a feature of this product; multi-currency belongs to the Finom business account supplied by the separate EMI entity, not to the accounting product. (d) It proposed 'bias' as a primary risk area, which is a weak fit for rule-bound tax computation; bias was dropped in favour of hallucination, automation bias and regulatory compliance, which are the realistic failure modes for automated categorisation and filing. Research confidence of 0.95 was lowered to 0.88 because no AI documentation, model disclosure or accuracy metric is published.
3. AUTONOMY CLAIMS CONFLICT AND MATTER. The vendor's 2025 press materials describe an autonomous AI agent and a distributed multi-agent system that prepares tax declarations and sends them to tax authorities, and also mention automated tax payment management. The current product page and the May 2026 standalone coverage instead emphasise an AI co-pilot, user approval required at each step of ELSTER submission, and that the customer stays in control. These cannot both be fully true of the same workflow. The distinction is governance-critical because the human approval gate is the principal control standing between a model error and an incorrect statutory filing. Any assessment of this tool should test the approval gate directly rather than rely on either marketing claim.
4. CONSEQUENTIAL ACTION SCOPE. This tool does not merely summarise financial data; it generates and transmits statutory tax filings to a national tax authority, and 2025 materials also claim automated tax payment management. Errors therefore carry direct financial and legal consequences for the customer, including penalties and interest. No published redress route, accuracy metric or incident disclosure process for an incorrect filing was located.
5. EU AI ACT POSITION NOT DETERMINED. Default risk level is set to medium on the basis of consequential financial and regulatory impact combined with a stated human approval gate and a narrow, rule-bound domain. This is a working assessment for catalogue triage only. No Annex III classification has been asserted here and none should be inferred; formal classification requires legal review and the vendor publishes no conformity documentation to support one either way.
6. MODELS UNDISCLOSED. No underlying model, model provider, sub-processor or hosting region is published for the AI features. Do not populate an openness assessment or processor edges for this record from technographic or enrichment sources; see the auto-enrichment warning on the vendor record.
