Paperpal
Paperpal is an AI academic writing assistant from Cactus Communications (CACTUS), available on the web and as add-ons for Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Overleaf and Chrome. Students, researchers and university staff use it to edit language, paraphrase, translate, summarise and chat with PDFs, find references and citations, and check manuscripts for plagiarism, AI-generated text and journal submission readiness; universities can buy institutional licences with a usage dashboard. The vendor says Paperpal uses a mix of AI models, including its own proprietary and fine-tuned generative models trained on licensed scholarly data, and that its AI detector gives a probability score from models trained on human and AI-written scholarly text. The vendor says Paperpal does not generate full texts, reminds users to review its output and helps them disclose AI use.
