Pure
by Elsevier
Pure is Elsevier's research information management system (CRIS). Universities and research institutes use it to record and showcase publications, projects, grants, researcher profiles and impact, and to report to funders and research assessments, with data synchronised from Scopus, ORCID and institutional HR and finance systems. The vendor's help centre says Elsevier's Fingerprint Service uses natural language processing and machine learning to assign thesaurus concepts to Pure records; Pure shows these as research fingerprints, and Elsevier says it uses them for researcher expertise and for matching researchers to funding opportunities. Elsevier says this is not generative AI, that customer data is not used to train the matching routines, and that staff can remove concepts from a record's fingerprint but cannot add them. Elsevier's Pure sub-processor list also names an optional Pure Impact AI module whose generative AI functionality is provided by Microsoft and OpenAI in the United States.
