Spoor bird monitoring
by Spoor
Spoor's software uses AI on video from standard high-resolution cameras to detect, identify and track individual birds around wind turbines. In March 2025 Ørsted started a pilot at its Borssele 1&2 offshore wind farm with three cameras installed at two turbines, monitoring bird flight behaviour continuously during daylight. The pilot analyses bird behaviour at distances of up to 1.9 km and is meant to provide data on actual avoidance behaviour and collisions instead of relying on precautionary collision models. It runs for at least one year to cover seasonal activity. Bird experts can review and verify the recorded high-resolution video afterwards. The system monitors only; it does not control the turbines.
