Web of Science Research Assistant
by Clarivate
Web of Science Research Assistant is a generative AI assistant inside Clarivate's Web of Science citation database. Researchers and students at subscribing institutions use it to ask research questions in natural language, understand a topic, start a literature review, find journals to publish in and identify experts in a field. The vendor says it uses commercially provided pre-trained large language models in a retrieval-augmented generation setup over the Web of Science Core Collection: it retrieves semantically similar and keyword-matched articles, ranks them and builds a response that lists the sources used, alongside co-citation networks, topic maps and trend graphs. Clarivate says only the text a user types is sent to the model through a private setup, that it does not train models on user data, and that academic subject-matter experts evaluate responses. Its AI policy warns that responses may be inaccurate or biased and should be checked against the cited sources.
