Finom AI Accounting is an AI-driven bookkeeping and tax compliance product for German freelancers, sole proprietors and small businesses, supplied by PNL Fintech B.V. under the Finom trade name. It automates receipt and invoice capture and data extraction, categorises bank transactions against the German SKR chart of accounts, performs reconciliation, and generates statutory German tax reports including UStVA (preliminary VAT return), UStE (annual VAT return), EUeR (income-surplus statement), GewSt (trade tax) and ZM (intra-EU recapitulative statement). Reports are filed directly with the Finanzamt through the ELSTER interface. An embedded AI assistant answers tax questions in plain language, flags missing documents and runs pre-deadline filing checks. The product also offers one-click DATEV export for customers working with a Steuerberater, a GoBD-compliant audit trail and ZUGFeRD e-invoicing. The vendor describes the underlying system as a distributed multi-agent system in which specialised AI agents collaborate on tasks, and has marketed it as an autonomous AI accounting agent. In parallel the vendor states that submissions to the Finanzamt require user approval at each step and that the customer stays in control, describing the assistant as an AI co-pilot. Both framings are recorded because they differ materially in implied autonomy; see record notes. History and availability: beta from March 2025, general availability to all German Finom customers in September 2025, and a standalone release in May 2026 that decoupled the product from the Finom business account, letting customers connect an existing bank account via PSD2. As of 1 August 2026 the product is Germany-only. Supported legal forms are Freiberufler and Gewerbetreibende within turnover limits, with GmbH and UG in beta, and several categories excluded outright. Pricing at the time of record is free for six months and then 14 euros per month. The vendor states explicitly that the product cannot substitute a licensed tax advisor.

The vendor publishes a help centre, in-product tax calendar and deadline tracking, and describes proactive compliance notifications and pre-deadline filing checks. Product changes are communicated through a product-news blog. Beta-to-general-availability user research was published for the accounting product, covering more than 1000 SMEs and freelancers from a beta that began in March 2025. No AI-specific post-market monitoring was located: no model performance reporting, no accuracy metrics for transaction categorisation or receipt extraction, no incident disclosure process for incorrect filings, and no published human-oversight or escalation procedure. Redress for an incorrect tax filing is not documented publicly.

Limites connues

No EU Declaration of Conformity or CE marking published, and no EU AI Act conformity or transparency documentation was located as of 1 August 2026. The underlying models and any model or infrastructure sub-processors behind the AI accounting features are entirely undisclosed; no AI-specific sub-processor list was found. No trust centre, SOC 2 report or ISO certificate was located on the public site, so security posture is unverified from public sources. Vendor-stated functional limits, which are unusually explicit and useful: the product page states that Finom Accounting cannot substitute a licensed tax advisor and is built to help the customer navigate taxes themselves. Scope is confined to Germany and to specific German legal forms and VAT situations, with GmbH and UG support in beta as of 1 August 2026 and several categories excluded outright, including agriculture and forestry, flat-rate expense schemes, margin schemes, and OSS or IOSS cross-border VAT. ROADMAP CLAIMS HAVE SLIPPED and should not be relied on. In early 2025 the vendor said the AI accounting agent would expand across the EU throughout 2025. At the May 2026 standalone launch the product was still Germany-only, with EU expansion again described as planned. Treat stated market and feature timelines as aspirational. UNVERIFIED VENDOR CLAIMS. The cost comparison, that the product sits 36 to 76 percent below German competitor tiers charging 11 to 29 euros per month, is the vendor's own analysis with no published methodology. The claim of 85 percent integration coverage of popular German accounting software is unsourced. The claim to be the first European financial services provider to offer an AI accounting agent, and that no major European fintech offers accounting without a mandatory banking relationship, are marketing positioning claims and have not been independently checked.
