Fugro BeWild remote ecology survey
by Fugro
In the BeWild project, Dutch geodata company Fugro and partners carried out what they call the world's first fully remote ecological survey at CrossWind's 759 MW Hollandse Kust Noord offshore wind farm (a Shell-Eneco joint venture, 18.5 km off Egmond aan Zee). Fugro's Blue Essence uncrewed surface vessel and Blue Volta electric ROV, operated from Aberdeen, combined computer vision with environmental DNA sampling to monitor marine life around the turbines with minimal disturbance, alongside remote asset inspection. The 2025 survey was the first of four R&D assessments at CrossWind, funded by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) MOOI programme. Ecologists interpret the results; the computer vision supports species detection. Model details are not stated.
