Second Opinion
by Pearl
Second Opinion is software for dental practices that uses AI to find pathologies on dental X-rays, used by dentists and their teams. The vendor says it marks up to 18 findings per image on bitewing, periapical and panoramic radiographs, including incipient and progressed caries, calculus, periapical radiolucencies, defective restoration margins, widened periodontal ligament, impactions and bone loss in millimetres, and labels existing restorations and tooth parts. Results appear as colour-coded overlays inside the practice's imaging software or in a web app, with progression views and take-home reports for patients. The scope of its MDR certificate describes it as computer-aided detection software intended to aid dental professionals reading intra-oral radiographs; the dentist makes the diagnosis. Pearl says it integrates with more than 40 imaging and practice-management systems. Its privacy policy says personal data from the EU, EEA and UK is processed in Ireland and never transferred to the United States, while also saying most of its operations are in the United States.
