Robin Radar MAX
MAX is a 3D bird radar from Robin Radar Systems (The Hague) that tracks birds around wind farms, classifies tracks by bird size and can detect the start of migrations to trigger shutdown-on-demand of single or multiple turbines. At Eneco's Windpark Maasvlakte 2 (developed for Rijkswaterstaat) a Robin radar went into use in March 2023: it detects flocks and local birds north of the park, and an IoT platform that Amis Conclusion built for Eneco applies decision rules and thresholds set by Eneco ecologists to stop turbines automatically via a real-time curtailment link. At Ecowende (Shell, Eneco, Chubu) a Robin MAX radar sits on a floating platform with DHI cameras and MUSE species-recognition software. The sources describe classification and rule-based shutdown, not machine learning.
